Dorcel Deep Expand: an inflatable sex toy

le

The Dorcel Deep Expand is an inflatable vaginal and anal plug. The principle is a little like that of an air mattress, but thankfully the comparison ends pretty quickly: a simple button controls the amount of air in the sex toy, and vibrations are also on the menu.

Dorcel Deep Expand

Unlike a rigid plug, the Deep Expand can be inserted at a fairly reasonable diameter before gradually increasing in size inside the body. You can increase the pressure, pause or deflate it at any time, according to your desires and limits.

Add a curved shape, ten vibration modes and a handle wide enough to make anal use safe, and the Deep Expand has more than one trick in its air cushion. But does this inflatable sex toy really offer different sensations, or does it mostly end up going pfft? Here’s my review.

Sex toy packaging

The Dorcel Deep Expand comes in a fairly standard cardboard box.

Inside, you’ll find the sex toy and its USB charging cable. Nothing to warrant an opening ceremony, but the essentials are there.

The cable does, however, have a proprietary connector at the sex toy end. So it’s best not to lose it at the bottom of a drawer: just any old USB cable won’t do the job.

What the Dorcel Deep Expand looks like

The Dorcel Deep Expand combines a matt black body with gold-coloured controls. It’s understated and fairly elegant, with just enough gold to remind you that it’s a Dorcel product, without turning the sex toy into a rapper’s accessory.

Its shape is distinctly curved, directing the insertable part towards the internal walls. The toy measures around 16 cm in total, of which just over 11 cm can be inserted. When deflated, its diameter is fairly reasonable, at around 3.5 centimetres, but it can reach almost 5 centimetres when inflated.

Finally, its handle lets you hold the toy and operate the controls, but it also serves an essential purpose: being wide enough, it acts as a stopper during anal use. So the Deep Expand isn’t merely compatible with both openings; its shape has genuinely been designed for that.

Texture and materials

The insertable part of the Deep Expand is covered in matt black silicone. This non-porous material is suitable for both vaginal and anal use, and feels much nicer against mucous membranes than hard plastics or the jelly-like materials still found on some plugs.

But its real peculiarity lies beneath that silicone covering. Since the sex toy fills with air, it remains softer and more compressible than a rigid dildo. It deforms slightly under pressure, then returns to its original shape, a little like a firm cushion.

The more you inflate it, the more the Deep Expand gains in volume and firmness, without becoming completely hard. Its elasticity allows it to mould to the internal walls rather than exerting pressure as sharply as a solid object. For once, the “inflatable” aspect doesn’t make it feel like you’ve bought a pool toy.

Power

The Deep Expand runs on a rechargeable battery and charges using the included USB cable. It has a proprietary connector at the sex toy end. Connecting it is easy enough, but it’s best to put the cable away carefully: if you lose it, your phone charger won’t come to the rescue.

Dorcel claims it takes 80 minutes to charge and has around an hour’s battery life. I didn’t time these, so those are the figures provided by the brand. An hour is reasonable for powering the vibrations and pneumatic system, though nothing particularly remarkable.

Unfortunately, the sex toy isn’t waterproof. It’s only splash-resistant, which rules out immersion and calls for a little care when cleaning it. You’ll need to wash the insertable part without letting water run freely over the handle, controls or charging port. For a sex toy designed for vaginal and anal penetration, a genuinely waterproof model would have been appreciated.

Using the Dorcel Deep Expand

The Deep Expand is inserted while deflated, at a diameter of around 3.5 cm. Once the sex toy is in place, the controls let you gradually pump in air, stop inflating at your preferred size or deflate it. You can adjust its volume in real time without having to take it out and start the whole process again.

So there’s no need to get past the vaginal or anal opening with a large diameter. The Deep Expand increases in size once inside, allowing you to increase the pressure without stretching the entrance as abruptly. If the sensation becomes too intense, you can pause or let out a little air before continuing.

As it inflates, the Deep Expand exerts fairly even pressure on the internal walls. The sensation is less about a specific raised area and more about a sense of fullness, which becomes more pronounced as its volume increases. During thrusting, friction adds to this constant, circular pressure.

Its air-filled structure also creates a rather distinctive kind of “rebound effect”. The sex toy compresses slightly against the tissues before returning to its shape, whereas a solid plug would push much more rigidly. This suppleness is more reminiscent of the resilience of erect tissue, without turning the Deep Expand into a realistic dildo by some kind of pneumatic miracle.

The air cushion also allows it to better accommodate anatomical differences. As it increases in size, its surface presses against the walls and creates more areas of contact. The pressure therefore feels more enveloping than genuinely hard or aggressive.

Vaginal use

For vaginal use, the Deep Expand’s curved shape directs its inflatable section towards the front wall and the G-spot area. As it increases in size, the contact becomes firmer and is easier to maintain during movement.

The vibrations benefit from this increased contact area, spreading throughout the inside. They seem broader, gentler and deeper than those of a rigid sex toy. On the other hand, the air cushion absorbs some of them: they lack punch and take second place to the feeling of fullness.

Anal use

For anal use, the gradual expansion is particularly useful. You pass the initial diameter through the anus, then increase the volume once the inflatable part is inside. This lets you explore greater pressure without having to insert a plug nearly 5 cm in diameter straight away.

The handle forms a stop that’s wide enough to prevent the sex toy disappearing inside. The plug can’t inflate beyond five centimetres, even if you use it incorrectly. Fans of very large plugs may find this limit a little conservative, but above all, it rules out the risk of injury from overinflation.

Once inflated, the Deep Expand sits securely against the walls and can be used without holding it all the time. Its hands-free potential is appealing, even if the buttons are unfortunately easy to press by accident. Changing the inflation level or switching modes at the wrong moment won’t cause a disaster, but it’s more than enough to break the rhythm.

Finally, the mechanism makes a pump noise while inflating. It’s noticeable but not deafening, then stops once you’ve reached the desired size. Apart from these little pneumatic episodes, the sex toy is fairly quiet.

Conclusion on the Dorcel Deep Expand

The good points:

  • Easy, effective inflation that’s simple to adjust during use.
  • Gradual expansion, for a deep feeling of fullness without immediately imposing the maximum diameter.
  • Soft, springy structure that moulds well to the internal walls.
  • Suitable for vaginal and anal use, thanks to its handle, which prevents it from going too far inside.
  • Its maximum diameter is reasonable, and overinflation is impossible, which is reassuring.

The bad points:

  • The inflatable structure dampens the vibrations.
  • Not waterproof (only ‘splash-resistant’).
  • The limited maximum diameter may disappoint fans of very large plugs.

A plug that inflates inside the body could easily have ended up in the big family of amusing gadgets that are fun for five minutes, then forgotten at the bottom of a drawer. The Dorcel Deep Expand avoids that sad fate: its pneumatic system works well, is easy to adjust and offers genuinely different sensations from those of a rigid sex toy.

The ability to increase the diameter after insertion is its strongest selling point. You control the progression, can go back at any time, and the pressure you get is deep and enveloping, with that pleasant feeling of fullness and rebound. The limit set at almost 5 cm is reassuring too, since it prevents overinflation and rules out the risk of injury from accidental misuse.

The vibrations play a supporting role rather than taking centre stage. The air cushion spreads them deeply, but also absorbs a good portion of them. Add buttons that are easy to press accidentally and basic splash resistance, and the Deep Expand isn’t faultless, even if none of these drawbacks really undermine its appeal.

At just under €80, I’d mainly recommend it to people looking for an adjustable feeling of fullness, for either vaginal or anal use, rather than a super-powerful vibrator. Fans of extreme diameters may be left wanting more, but for exploring internal expansion gradually and safely, the Dorcel Deep Expand is an original and generally reliable success.
