Tru Curve by Doc Johnson: a dual-density dildo

The Tru Curve from Doc Johnson is a dual-density silicone dildo, at an affordable price.

The nuances in texture are often the main interest of a dildo. This is why the wonderful RealCock, the great Vixen Creations toys, and, to a lesser extent, certain Tantus sex toys like the Max O2 or the Gary O2, are so enjoyable to use.

The Doc Johnson brand had, however, rather accustomed us to sex toys of mediocre quality, often neglecting the choice of material, with toys made of jelly, or other blends containing phthalates.

However, its Truskyn series, a selection of dildos and pure silicone plugs, seems to mark a willingness to change its habits. All this, with a “realistic” texture that we felt compelled to inspect.

Here is our review of the Doc Johnson Tru Curve dildo.

Packaging of the Doc Johnson Tru Curve: ordinary

The packaging is made of cardboard, quite ordinary, and disposable. But a blue fabric storage pouch is included.

Appearance of the Tru Curve: a geometric sex toy

While some sex toys in the range, like the Tru Ride, also rely on visual realism, the Tru Curve, for its part, is phallic, but abstract.

The model we received is purple, but it also exists in a fuchsia pink version.

Its shape is very geometric. It starts with a flat base, from which a tubular shaft extends. Then, towards its tip, the sex toy curves sharply towards a glans forming a flattened cone.

Alright, let’s be honest: there are worse ones out there, but it is not very good-looking.

Material: the Tru Curve is made of pure silicone

Admittedly, Doc Johnson has not always been transparent about the materials used in its sex toys, and was even caught red-handed lying by the Dildology project.

But, regarding the claim that the Tru Curve is made of pure silicone, there is no doubt. For starters, the sex toy is perfectly odorless and has no suspicious characteristics.

And for the sceptics, the blogger Dangerous Lilly sacrificed a sex toy made of Truskyn to make it reveal its secrets. Conclusion: the device is indeed innocent. Made of pure silicone, just as it claimed.

For my part, I did not want to torture this poor Tru Curve. But I will share the results she posted on her blog:

The flame test

Doc Johnson sex toys in TruSkyn pass the “flame test” with success.

This examination consists of burning the surface of the sex toy to observe the resulting chemical reaction. Indeed, a pure silicone sex toy does not melt. It may potentially burn, with a moderate flame, and produce ash. But once the residue is wiped off, the sex toy retains its original texture without becoming sticky. Whereas a sex toy that is not pure silicone melts, or burns with a stubborn flame that is difficult to extinguish.

Cross-section view

In cross-section, as Dangerous Lilly revealed by decapitating a poor Tru Ride, it is indeed silicone across the entire diameter.

Texture: the TruSkyn is all soft

The texture of the Tru Curve is a success. A surface that is all soft, gentle against your intimate areas, with a firm core, which allows it to maintain a nice erection.

Granted, we are far from the realism level of the RealCock and its “Sil-Slide” technology. But then again, it is not the same price range. And the TruSkyn is still not as soft as the VixSkin from Vixen Creations, with its expertly crafted texture. But it is more successful, and softer, than the Tantus Max O2 or Gary O2.

Effectiveness: a good G-spot sex toy

The Tru Curve and its dimensions, corresponding to those of a nicely sized penis, are very well suited for vaginal penetration.

Its soft head penetrates smoothly, with a little water-based lubricant if needed. Its curve and shape are ideal for stimulating the G-spot. The sex toy stimulates the area firmly but without roughness, and comes back to place itself right in the right spot with every thrust. It thus leads to orgasm with little effort.

The bad points:

  • Its look leaves a little to be desired.

The Tru Curve and its pouch

Despite a look that isn’t exactly stunning, the Tru Curve turns out in the end to be a good surprise.

Its texture, firm at the centre and soft on the surface, is even more pleasant than those of the Tantus from the O2 range, yet more expensive. In short: a very nice dual-density dildo, at an accessible price.
