Forbes magazine asked Pornhub’s statisticians to look into the computer hardware and web browsers from which its visitors watch porn. They have therefore just released the Pornhub Tech Review, an analysis of this data for the year 2020.
Pornhub Tech Review: which device do people watch the most porn on?
Although working from home has brought computers back into fashion, this trend hasn’t taken hold when it comes to porn viewing: in this regard, the PC is still on the decline. The tablet, a loyal companion for porn in 2019, fell out of favour in 2020, dropping from 33% of Pornhub visits to just 4%. The big winner is the smartphone, which now accounts for 80% of visits to the porn platform.
How to explain this, despite the various lockdowns, which have somewhat undermined the appeal of being able to carry your phone everywhere with you? Well, simply put, a lot of people found themselves locked down with their families. And the only safe screen for watching porn without the risk of being interrupted by a toddler or of accidentally mixing urgent work files with a compilation of the best Sasha Grey videos is… that of the smartphone, the device we share the least.
Is the porn you like linked to your technology preferences?
So let’s look at these statistics in more detail. Is there a link between the porn people watch and their favourite smartphone brand or operating system? Well, curiously, it would seem so.
Pornhub Tech Review: Android vs Apple
Pornhub Insights went in search of the keywords and categories that appear to be significantly more searched from one platform than the other.
Android leads on the terms: “Japan” (+112%), “Pokemon” (+111%), “Giantess” (+103%), “3D” (+100%), “Furry” (+97%). And on the categories: “Uncensored hentai” (+101%), “Virtual Reality” (+95%), “Small tits” (+78%), “Cosplay” (+76%), “Webcam” (+69%).
Well… Pokémon Go on Android, an inexhaustible source for the collective sexual imagination? (Yes). If you’re a geek with an otaku leaning, it’s very likely you went for an Android smartphone.
As for Apple, it dominates searches for the keywords: “Car sex” (+170%), “Fat ass” (+133%), “Fingering” (+128%), “Vibrator” (+125%), “College” (+122%). On the categories front, it’s not much more juicy: “Lesbian” (+65%), “Ass” (+59%), “Popular with women” (+52%), “Latina” (+37%), “Solo male” (+35%).
So… Apple users dream of a college student with a big backside who fingers herself in her car? Not very original, all of that.
Pornhub Tech Review: Windows vs Mac
On the side of visitors coming from a Windows PC, we observe pretty much the same kind of trends as with Android users.
The categories in which Windows wins by a mile over MacOs: “Cartoon” (+127%), “Virtual Reality” (+110%), “Hentai” (+105%), “Trans with guy” (+101%), “Small tits” (+71%).
And those in which MacOs is in the lead: “Popular with women” (+112%), “Solo male” (+69%), “Lesbian” (+58%), “Muscular men” (+54%), “Romantic” (+50%).
Ah, I can already see you imagining all your friends with Android smartphones as little rascals dreaming of a naked Pikachu… And those who tap away on their iPhone, could they be a bit tight in the backside?
Now, before getting carried away, let’s note that these statistics are presented in a way that highlights the differences. They are not the most searched keywords by each category of visitors. Despite these amusing nuances, the overall trend on the most popular terms is probably more or less identical, whatever the device.
