The Japanese lubricant Rends Peace’s has a rather particular texture. Indeed, it is thicker and more viscous than “classic” lubricants. Presented in a very simple and transparent bottle, its composition is just as minimalist.
Let’s take a closer look.
Chemical compatibility
It is a water-based lubricant. It is therefore compatible with condoms and sex toys.
Taste and smell of Rends Peace’s lubricant
The Rends Peace’s lubricant is really odourless. It has no taste, which is a very good point.
Appearance and texture
The product is colourless and transparent.
Its texture is thicker than that of an ordinary lubricant. It does not run.
Composition of Rends Peace’s lubricant
Only two ingredients. Water and sodium polyacrylate.
The sodium polyacrylate is a particularly absorbent substance. It is a polymer capable of absorbing 200 to 300 times its mass in water.
It is found, in particular, in sanitary pads and pull-up pants.
This compound is admittedly not very “organic”: as a powder (as it is found in nappies or pads), it is suspected of causing allergies, and is dangerous if inhaled or swallowed (because, precisely, of its enormous absorbent power).
But since we are dealing with a viscous substance rather than crystals, we can deduce that sodium polyacrylate is present only in very low proportions. Highly diluted, it therefore loses its absorbent power. There is therefore no reason to worry about the risk of being lyophilised on the spot.
As for the risk of allergies, in case of any doubt, one can test (as with any cosmetic product) by applying a small amount of product to the skin and waiting a few hours to see what happens. As far as we are concerned, we had no problems on that front.
Quantity / price ratio
The bottle we received costs around 5 euros for 30 millilitres.
But Rends Peace’s lubricant is also available in a large format (360 millilitres) for around 30 euros. This price seems a little high, but the bottle is very large: nearly twice (1.8 times, to be exact) the volume of a large bottle of Durex Play lubricant. The price per litre is therefore not exorbitant if you buy it in this format: 1.66 times that of Durex Play (which is the most ordinary lubricant you can find).
The bottle
The bottle is very simple: transparent, with the logo and brand name in green.
The small format fits easily in a pocket or handbag. This can prove very useful, for example if you are also carrying around a small vibrator.
Use of Rends Peace’s lubricant
What about lubrication?
A tiny amount of Rends Peace’s lubricant is enough to make things slippery: the lubrication is very effective, more so than that of other water-based lubricants I have had the chance to use.
And durability?
It is less long-lasting than a silicone lubricant (which generally requires a good, soapy shower to stop making your intimate parts as slippery as a skating rink), but there’s no need to reapply tons… On most occasions we used it, a single application was enough.
Conclusion on Rends Peace’s lubricant
I liked:
- It has neither taste nor smell.
- Its thick texture is unusual and pleasant.
- Its price is not excessive.
Overall, Rends Peace’s lubricant is a pleasant discovery. Its lack of taste and smell makes it very discreet, and (at least in my opinion), that is its main advantage.
