We have tested the vibrator Joya Sphere Massager.
This circular vibrator, whose shape evokes the Yin and the Yang, is both pretty and original. It is made of two separable parts, which can be used to complement each other, or independently.
The Joya bills itself as a two-in-one sex toy. Its white part offers various vibration speeds and its black part, various pulsation modes. (Spoiler: five of each kind).
It is presented as a sex toy for couples, but nothing stops solo use.
So let’s see what the Yin and the Yang have in store for us.
Joya Sphere Massager packaging
The Joya Sphere Massager box is square, made of fairly sturdy cardboard. A red design on a black and white background decorates it.
The instructions are printed on the back.
Inside it is another box, circular, made of sturdy transparent plastic, that seals airtight. This box will be perfectly suitable as a storage case for the Joya Sphere Massager.
Appearance: the Yin and the Yang, sex toy version
On seeing a photo of the Joya, Lui immediately exclaimed: “It looks like a vacuum cleaner Roomba * !”. It must be pointed out that this is a very positive remark, because a Roomba vacuum is rather nice.
This double vibrator, in the shape of the Yin and Yang symbol, is very pretty, with its original design, quite unusual for a sex toy.
According to Wikipedia, black is the Yin, a symbol of femininity. And white is the Yang, a symbol of masculinity. They also represent a load of opposites: moon/sun, shadow/light, cold/hot, negative/positive. Their association symbolises duality in the form of complementarity.
In short, whether or not one likes symbolism, the result itself is very aesthetically pleasing.
(*) In the links, they are not ads for vacuum cleaners, right? Well, I admit, the lolcats are not much better… But admit it, the kitten is cute!
Texture and material: rigid PVC
The Joya Sphere Massenger is made of PVC. It is firm, but its surface is soft. Its two halves have the same texture.
Instructions for the Joya Sphere Massager
At first, we didn’t look at the instructions, assuming the device had a dead simple operation. Two buttons in total, one on the Yin and one on the Yang, it can’t be that tricky…
Power
The Joya needs two AAA batteries for each of its halves, i.e. four batteries in total. The batteries go into a compartment, which has to be unclipped by turning its cover.
Assuming that putting the batteries in would be easy was a major mistake. After inserting the batteries, I press the button on one of the two halves of the device. Panic. Nothing turns on.
He laughs and tells me I’ve put the batteries the wrong way round. He takes a look. No, actually not. Could the instructions for the battery orientation be reversed in Switzerland?
We put the batteries the other way round, just to see. Phew. The thing switches on. It vibrates weakly. We press the button to change the vibration mode. Nothing.
Checking the instructions: the button in question is indeed supposed to let you change the vibration mode. Could it be bugged? Panic again. Looking more closely at the instructions.
Right… Actually, the correct way round for the batteries really was the one indicated on the label from the start.
Swiss batteries are fitted the same way everywhere in the world. As indicated on the label, and as I had tried at first. That makes sense.
With the batteries the wrong way round, the device may switch on weakly (however, there may be a risk of damaging it), but its controls no longer respond.
And to switch on the device, you have to perform a long press on its button. Long, the press. Three seconds, to be more precise.
Then, a single press on the same button allows you to change the vibration mode (or pulsation mode, depending on the part you use).
Another long press to switch it off.
Using the Joya Sphere Massager
Vibration modes
The white part of the Joya has five vibration speeds, which are adjusted by a single press on its button, from the slowest speed to the fastest.
To gradually build up pleasure, it may be worth starting with the slowest mode, the first one, then gradually changing speed, up to the fastest.
Pulsation modes
The black part of the Joya has five pulsation modes, which are selected by simply pressing its button.
- The first mode consists of long pulses, identical to one another.
- The second one doubles the frequency, with shorter pulses.
- The third one delivers series of four short pulses.
- The fourth one alternates three short pulses, then a long one.
- The fifth one goes into overdrive, with pulses that are truly very, very fast.
Solo use
Both devices are intended to stimulate the clitoris, and, if desired, the perineum and the vaginal opening.
The Yin (the black part, which pulses) is very pleasant to start with. Its fourth mode (if you missed the start, I’m not talking about yoga) is interesting for building desire. You find yourself counting the short pulses, impatiently waiting for the long one.
But, to climax, you need to switch to the Yang and its vibrations. So, plan on four batteries, or a pause to change the device’s batteries (I would recommend having four batteries on hand).
The part of the device where the vibrations are most intense is its “tip” (for each of the two halves). To reach an orgasm, it is more effective to apply it directly to the clitoris.
First test : Orgasm achieved at the device’s maximum vibration speed, in a perfectly reasonable time. Without going into the legend of the orgasmators 3000, the Joya Sphere Massager still proves effective.
Second test : Well, I intend to orgasm, so I may as well go straight to the Yang, at its maximum speed.
After a few moments of applying the tip of the sex toy to my clitoris, I notice another possible use of the Joya. You can, by holding it vertically, use its tip to stimulate the vaginal entrance, while the vibrations from its rounded area take care of the clitoris. Effect tested and approved. However, some care is needed with the movement applied to the vibrator, in order to maintain regular stimulation.
Orgasm achieved fairly quickly, ending with clitoral stimulation between the Joya and a finger.
Couples’ use
The Joya is very useful to enhance foreplay, or to stimulate the clitoris during penetration. If you are too busy with something else to concentrate on working the toy, the stimulation will remain subtle but very pleasant.
Conclusion on the Joya Sphere Massager
The Joya Sphere Massager is more suited to gentle stimulation, for those who want to take their time to orgasm, or for couples’ use, in addition to caressing or penetration.
Its original and graceful design sets it apart from the clichés of the “classical” sex toy. It will therefore ideally suit people who are looking to to get into sex toys without immediately turning to objects with shapes that are sometimes too suggestive.
