The Lovely-Vibes shop sent us a bottle of Nexus Slide lubricant.
This water-based lubricant is intended primarily for anal penetration. However, it is also suitable for other uses: masturbation, vaginal penetration, etc…
The word “Nexus” first brings to mind Google’s smartphones… But it’s also the name of a brand of sex toys and of lubricants.
The product
Appearance and texture
The Nexus Slide lubricant is transparent and colourless. It is not greasy, and it is not sticky.
Its texture is fairly dense: if I pour a drop onto the back of my hand, it does not run and does not move too much when I move my hand.
Taste and odour
The Nexus Slide lubricant has no taste or odour, which is a good thing.
Composition
Nexus Slide is a water-based lubricant. It is therefore fully compatible with condoms and sex toys, and cleans off fairly easily.
It does not contain parabens.
Let’s, with the help of Wikipedia, break down the composition listed on the bottle:
- “Aqua (Water)” : water.
- “Glycerin” : glycerin is a common ingredient in lubricants, but should be avoided for vaginal penetration if you are prone to infections or mycoses.
- “Propylene glycol” : a food additive, also used in e-cigarettes.
- “Hydroxyethyl cellulose” : a thickener, derived from cellulose.
- “2-bromo-2nitropropane-1,3-diol” : also known as bronopol, it is an antimicrobial, used as a preservative in many cosmetic products.
- “Iodopropynyl butylcarbamate” : Iodopropynyl butylcarbamate is a preservative, used in cosmetics. It is an allergen and toxic when inhaled.
Its presentation
Bottle
The Nexus Slide lubricant is packaged in a fairly plain cardboard box.
The bottle itself, black and opaque, is just as simple. It is fitted with a push-button pump, which makes it easy to dose the amount of product you dispense, and the whole thing is fairly hygienic.
One small drawback: there is no cap over the top to seal the pump bottle airtight. A simple plastic clip, which you place under the push-button pump, keeps the button raised. If you lose the clip (and we rather quickly lost the aforementioned clip), the bottle starts to drip everywhere as soon as you try to lug it around in a bag. In short, it is no longer portable.
Value for money
The 150-millilitre bottle costs less than 10 euros, which is not really any more expensive than an ordinary supermarket lubricant.
Use
I find the dense texture of Nexus Slide pleasant: it lubricates effectively, whether for masturbation with or without a sex toy, vaginal penetration or anal penetration. It does not dry out too quickly, but, unlike a silicone-based lubricant, it is easy to wash off when you want to get rid of it.
Conclusion on the Nexus Slide lubricant
The good points:
- The dense texture of Nexus Slide is pleasant: it lubricates effectively without being sticky or greasy.
- It is colourless and odourless.
- It is easy to wash off.
- It does not contain parabens.
The bad points:
- In terms of composition, Nexus could have done better: avoiding glycerine and the slightly dodgy preservative would have been preferable.
The Nexus Slide lubricant is particularly pleasant to use. No taste, no odour, a thick but not greasy texture: it knows how to stay discreet while lubricating effectively.
