Who is Jedy Vales, Youporn’s virtual ambassador?
Jedy Vales is a creation by CamasutraVR, a studio specialising in virtual reality.
She’s not an AI, but an animated avatar, controlled by a moderator. Athletic build, brown hair, green eyes, she fits contemporary beauty standards. But for a 3D character created in 2019, her facial expressions leave a little to be desired.
The magazine Papermag interviewed her. Or rather, it interviewed her moderator?
Youporn isn’t the first brand to turn to a virtual influencer. KFC already has one: the Virtual Influencer Colonel. Representing a young, trendy version of Colonel Sanders, the brand’s founder, this 3D-generated hipster strikes poses and even does strip-teases on the fast-food chain’s Instagram account.
The ambassadors of porn sites
Not long ago, Mashable published an interview with Pornhub’s community manager, Aria Nathaniel.
It revealed that the porn platform’s Twitter account, as well as the Pornhub Insights site, were run by neither a bot nor a team of twenty, but by one and the same young woman.
Aria manages to capture the attention of traditional media by regularly publishing fun statistics about the habits of porn consumers. Navigating tricky territory, she carefully avoids controversial topics so as not to attract trolls. This unconventional take on porn brings a breath of freshness, far removed from the hickishness one often finds in video descriptions, for example.
MindGeek’s other major branches (the company that owns most porn sites), Youporn and Redtube, are also represented on social media by young women, Katie and Emma.
People online appreciate the authenticity of Aria’s personality, who knows how to stay true to herself in a landscape riddled with bots. So one might wonder whether a virtual influencer is really what the audience expects.
