Since the first time we talked to you about VR porn, it’s been a while. About six years! And the technology has come on quite a bit in all that time. The Oculus Quest 2 has just come out, and virtual reality porn is booming.
So, VR porn at the end of 2020: is it worth it? How immersive are the videos? What sort of budget do you need?
To try to answer these questions, let’s take a quick look at the different virtual reality porn options available.
VR porn vs 2D porn
In terms of immersion, it’s a hundred times better, but it’s still ten times more uncomfortable.
For a start, you’ve got a big headset on your head. That can be distracting when you’re masturbating… It’s best to make sure in advance that nobody’s going to interrupt you in the middle of it; otherwise, you might jump three feet in the air in surprise and look a bit silly.
The quality of VR porn
VR porn videos are still a little less polished and user-friendly than, say, VR video games.
It really depends on the scenes and how they’re filmed. In some, the immersion is incredibly good: it feels like the woman is really kissing you, or you’re going down on her. In others, not so much: it’s in 3D, which is cool, but it’s still a porn video without any particular interaction.
Basically, it depends. But it has the potential to be much better. And in some scenes in some films, it is: for brief moments, you really feel like you’re doing things in real life, rather than watching porn on a screen.
What sort of budget do you need to watch VR porn?
As for the equipment you need, the cheapest option is to get an Oculus Quest 2 for 350 euros. On PC, it’ll cost more, because you’ll need a decent PC and, at the very least, a Quest 2.
It’s worth remembering, though, that besides porn, a VR headset can also be used for:
- Sex games in VR, which keep getting better (reviews coming soon).
- Everything else that isn’t porn: films, games, etc.
Virtual reality porn platforms
Of course, there aren’t as many VR porn platforms as there are classic porn tubes. But we’re starting to have a bit of choice. When it comes to content, there are several paid VR porn platforms. VR porn tubes like Pornhub are also starting to emerge.

Among the VR porn tubes:
- VR Sumo seems to offer a few fairly long videos, as well as quite a few sample videos.
- Some “classic” porn tubes, including Pornhub, Xhamster and Xvideos, have their own “virtual reality” sections, with a pretty decent amount of content. As far as image quality goes, Pornhub is pretty rubbish if you stick to the free section. However, a Pornhub Premium subscription gives you access to paid VR videos of good quality.
- Lots of platforms offer a few very short free samples, but you have to pay to see more.
Virtual reality porn tubes are handy if you want to get an idea of what VR porn looks like. But if you’re making do with a very short video or one with a low resolution, the experience won’t necessarily be as immersive.
These days, you can find VR porn in 8K. However, the experience is perfectly decent at 4K resolution.
VR porn platforms
There are starting to be a few VR porn platforms. However, if you want to make sure you get quality content, and, above all, regular updates (because the quality keeps improving over time), it’s best to go for something a bit more established.
Probably because they target a fairly geeky audience, most VR porn platforms are very active on Reddit and therefore listen to their communities. So many of them adapt to their users’ feedback.
SexLikeReal
SexLikeReal is one of the biggest sites, combining variety and quality.
However, its subscription is one of the most expensive: 30 dollars a month, or 700 dollars “for life”.
VB Bangers
VB Bangers, which we talked about recently, is a little more mainstream. But it’s still one of the main players in the field, and one of the best.
Its monthly subscription costs 25 euros, and its “lifetime” subscription costs 250 euros.
VirtualRealPorn
VirtualRealPorn, a Spanish studio, is one of the pioneers. We interviewed them a while ago. Their platform is still very active, with regular new content. In fact, the site promises two new videos a week.
Its monthly subscription costs about twenty euros, while an annual subscription works out at 90 euros.
BadoinkVR
BadoinkVR was also one of the first to get into virtual reality porn.
Its monthly subscription costs 25 dollars, and its annual subscription costs 90 dollars. They also promise two new videos a week.
Kink VR
Fans of BDSM won’t be left out, thanks to Kink VR. BDSM porn in virtual reality. The site had a period when it offered a free trial. Was that during lockdown, or just for its launch? I can’t remember. In any case, the site seemed to have some pretty good content, quite different from the other platforms.
Its monthly subscription costs 25 dollars, and the annual plan costs 90 dollars. There’s also a pay-per-film option, which lets you download a film for one dollar. Like VirtualRealPorn and BadoinkVR, the platform says it releases two new videos a week.
Jacquie et Michel Immersion
If you prefer French porn, the Jacquie et Michel site also has its own VR studio, Jacquie et Michel Immersion. It’s a far cry from the gonzo porn filmed haphazardly by the side of a motorway that made the platform popular. I’ve only watched the previews, so I haven’t had a chance to judge it, but it looks like very classic, mainstream porn.
The site offers two subscription plans: one for 15 euros a month, which includes streaming only, and one for streaming + VR at 25 euros a month.
Dorcel VR
Dorcel, the French porn giant, also has its own VR section. It’s VOD only.
What about VR porn for women?

When we first tried watching virtual reality porn, while visiting VirtualRealPorn, I wanted to check out a VR porn film that put me in the actress’s shoes.
I found myself looking at a 180-degree view of a man who was much too muscular and much too bald for my taste, going down on a woman whose point of view the video showed me. All beside a swimming pool.
Although the Hollywood-style setting and the actress’s 90F breasts didn’t exactly help me identify with the scene, my first instinct was to recoil in horror. Eeergh, get away from my pussy, sir!
Basically, not my cup of tea. My next experiences weren’t much more successful.
VR porn for women in 2020
What’s it like in 2020? Well, I haven’t explored every platform, so I can’t give you a comprehensive answer. As far as mainstream platforms go, for now I’ll only talk about VR Bangers, the only one I’ve been able to explore enough to get a clear idea of.
When it comes to porn that puts you in a woman’s shoes, the pickings are a bit slim. Technically, it’s better done than it was in 2014, but you can’t exactly say there’s something for everyone.
Exploring the “for women” category, I once again found myself with silicon boobs, straddling a hunk on a fur rug. Some people might like that, but I doubt many women will see themselves in this kind of video.
Which VR porn should you choose if you’re a woman?
Otherwise, there are two main options for women.
On the one hand, videos that put you in a man’s shoes. It’s less immersive, because the body you see in the video doesn’t look like yours, but on the plus side, it’s fun to find yourself with a virtual penis.
On the other, videos that put the viewer in a voyeuristic position, as an invisible witness or participant in the scene.
More generally, of all the VR porn I’ve seen, the videos that seemed most likely to appeal to women, or at least to a mixed audience, were on the Kink VR platform. But since it specifically targets BDSM fans, not everyone will find it a satisfying option.
Basically, there still seems to be some way to go before women can enjoy a VR porn experience that’s as immersive as men’s, with just as much choice. A message to filmmakers! There are more and more geek girls, and some of them would really like to see VR porn made to their taste.
