Fun Factory Ocean: a small, squishy vibrator

le

The Fun Factory Ocean is a small, squishy vibrator, marketed by the German brand as a sex toy for beginners.

But choosing your first sex toy is no easy feat. You don’t yet know whether you’ll love it and use it regularly for a long time, or find it underwhelming and quickly set your future erotic toy aside. And a bad choice can spoil the experience of this discovery and put you off trying again.

Should you trust the advice of salespeople? That’s what we’re going to look at in this review.

Packaging of the sex toy

The packaging is spartan: a thin cardboard box. No storage case is included, but that’s the same with all of the brand’s sex toys, including those from the more expensive ranges.

Look of the Fun Factory Ocean vibrator

The Fun Factory Ocean measures 14 centimetres in length, but has only around ten centimetres of insertable length, after a sort of bulb that serves as a flange. It’s worth noting that this protrusion, which can stimulate the vaginal entrance, will also allow for safe anal insertion.

Dimensions of the Fun Factory Ocean sex toy

Its shape, two overlapping waves, is what gives it the name Ocean. Only one colour is available: pastel pink.

Texture and materials

Like all of the brand’s sex toys, the Fun Factory Ocean is pure silicone, a body-safe material.

Its texture is pleasant: it’s particularly squishy. However, it has an annoying tendency to attract dust.

Powering the Fun Factory Ocean

The old-fashioned way: the Fun Factory Ocean runs on two AAA batteries. Batteries are starting to feel like a rather vintage power source! It’s all very well wanting to make sure that the “luxury” models are clearly distinguished from the entry-level ones, but going so far as to fit the latter with batteries to really drive the point home is a bit cheeky.

Sure, rechargeable batteries exist, and I have some on hand. So I unclip the vibrator’s battery compartment and meticulously place the batteries, one with its positive end facing up, the other facing down… I feel like I’m time-travelling.

To its credit, the thing at least makes the effort of being waterproof.

Performance of the Fun Factory Ocean

The all-squishy texture and the shape of the vibrator are pleasant. When you barely insert the vibrator, its nub comes to rest against the clit, and if it goes in further, its head presses against the G-spot.

However, the power is greatly lacking. Whether used externally or penetratively, using this sex toy leaves me wanting more. It’s a shame: the vibrations seemed fairly well distributed, but there simply aren’t enough of them.

The order of the modes doesn’t help you make do with what’s there. Pressing the “+” button to turn the sex toy on starts you on the fifth most powerful vibration mode. There’s only one above that, and after that, they’re whimsical modes, of little interest. The “-” button only gives you access to weaker vibrations. In short, you can hardly ramp up the intensity in the heat of the moment, and that’s rather frustrating.

Conclusion on the Fun Factory Ocean

The good points:

  • The Fun Factory Ocean is a squishy silicone vibrator, waterproof, not too expensive and rather cute.

The bad points:

  • It’s desperately lacking in power, in my opinion.
  • It’s powered by batteries.

5 .2 / 10

Les plus

  • In very squishy silicone

Les moins

  • Lack of power
  • Battery-powered

If I’d tested the Fun Factory Ocean back in 2012, at the start of the blog, I would have probably thought it was a nice little vibrator. And not just because I had far fewer sex toys at the time and therefore less discernment in judging them. Overall, it’s well designed… for a 2012 sex toy. It actually bears quite a resemblance to my old Dolly Dolphin 2. I loved that one back in the day! But although it’s still functional, it now enjoys a well-earned rest at the bottom of my sex toy drawer.

However, it’s 2020 now, and the Fun Factory Ocean is seriously behind the times. You could argue that it’s much cheaper than the brand’s more luxurious models. Fair enough, but… it still costs nearly 40 euros, and for a similar budget, you can get a great vibrator without having to jump back in time.

For example:

  • The Satisfyer Magic Bunny rabbit, for dual clitoral and vaginal stimulation. Or any of the other entry-level Satisfyer vibrators or suction vibrators (except the Number Two, which is battery-powered). The choice is plentiful, and they’re generally rather well made.
  • The My Pleasure by Goliate, a rather well-designed vibrator for G-spot stimulation, for under thirty euros.
