With its unusual appearance, the Tenga Iroha Ukidama, a glowing vibrator for the bath, caught my eye among the products in the Le Poulpe Câlin shop’s catalogue. In Japanese, the term “ukidama” refers to a glass float, which fishermen of the past used to keep their nets afloat.
Created by masturbator brand Tenga, Iroha is a range of vibrators featuring small sex toys with rounded shapes and pastel colours. The collection focuses on soft, abstract designs that are not intimidating, aimed at people who are not used to using sex toys. A few years ago, we had already tried a vibrator from the same brand, the Iroha Yuki. It was very soft and lovely to touch, but unfortunately not sturdy enough. Iroha was still in its early days then, though, and has had plenty of time to make progress since.
The Iroha Ukidama is a small clitoral vibrator with an ovoid shape, which lights up in time with its vibrations. We tested it.

The packaging of the Iroha Ukidama is a small box combining clear plastic and cardboard. It’s disposable. The Ukidama sits on its base, a small translucent ring.

Look of the Tenga Iroha Ukidama
The Tenga Iroha Ukidama is fairly small, roughly the shape and size of an egg: approximately 7 centimetres tall and 5.5 centimetres in diameter.
It consists of two parts. The larger one, at the top when the vibrator is placed on its base, is translucent, while the lower part is white and opaque.
At first glance, the sex toy doesn’t exactly suggest power, efficiency or excess. On the other hand, it is very attractive, even when switched off… And even more so when it’s on, glowing with a lovely light from within. It’s also quite inconspicuous, and could probably sit on a shelf amid your collection of amethysts without attracting Aunt Olga’s inquisitive looks when she comes to visit.
Texture and materials
The official website of the Iroha brand lists the composition of the Ukidama as: silicone, TPU, ABS, polycarbonate. The exterior of the sex toy nevertheless seems to be made up of only two distinct materials, one for the opaque base and one for the translucent part. So I imagine that the other two materials are located inside the sex toy. As for which part is made of what, I have to admit I don’t really know. Either way, none of these materials is toxic, so all is well on that front.
The upper part, translucent and removable, is relatively firm, but you can still deform it by pressing on it, as the sex toy is hollow. Its interior is a cavity in which the light from the LEDs in its base diffuses, a bit like a household LED bulb.
The lower part of the sex toy is firm. It contains the controls and two small metal contacts for charging the vibrator.
Powering the Tenga Iroha Ukidama
The Iroha Ukidama is rechargeable using a supplied cable with a USB Type-A connector at one end and two magnetic contacts at the other. The latter attach magnetically to the two metal contacts on the vibrator. This is the same type of charging popularised by Fun Factory and now found on many sex toys.
The Iroha Ukidama glows slightly from the inside while charging.
The sex toy is waterproof, which goes without saying for a bath vibrator. No issues to report on this front.
Controls and modes
The Ukidama has two buttons on its base. The one shaped like a flower controls the vibrations, while the circular button controls the lighting of the sex toy.
There are three constant vibration modes and a rhythmic mode. As for the lighting, the device also has three intensity levels and a mode in which the brightness varies.
Using the Tenga Iroha Ukidama
In the bath, the Ukidama floats on the water surface, casting an attractive, relaxing glow.
The vibrations are concentrated in the opaque area; the “lamp” side merely transmits them, attenuated. So this is the part you would press against the clitoris. But they aren’t very powerful.
I didn’t have an orgasm with it. I think I could if I really persevered, but that’s not really the point of an object like this. This vibrator is better suited to gentle caresses as foreplay, helping you ease into the world of sex toys, rather than really delivering the goods. That said, I would still have liked the Ukidama to pack a bit more punch.
Conclusion on the Tenga Iroha Ukidama
The good points:

- The fact that it’s glowing and floating makes it very original.
The bad points:
- Well, the light might not be the first feature you look for when choosing a sex toy!

You could compare the Iroha Ukidama to a much classier version of the famous vibrating duck. It’s a sex toy that doesn’t pack a mind-blowing punch, but has a pretty, pleasant and reassuring look that lets you ease into the world of sex toys and discover without pressure whether you might want more.
The concept of a light-up bath vibrator is nice. And starting gently, why not? But although vibrations aren’t necessarily its forte, Tenga could have made a little effort and equipped its sex toy with a few additional, more intense power levels.
