An ultra-powerful vibrator called Body Massage L’Original caught my eye in the Dorcel Store catalogue.
This sex toy looks a bit like the Hitachi Magic Wand, in black, for half the price of the Europe Magic Wand. I had to take a closer look and give you my opinion.
So here’s my review of the Body Massage L’Original vibrator.
Sex toy packaging
The packaging is very basic, but that’s also the case with the Europe Magic Wand: an ordinary cardboard box, plastic film, and that’s it. Never mind, let’s move on to the sex toy.
Body Massage L’Original… Really?
First, a quick word about its name: the Body Massage L’Original is original in name only. If its manufacturer had wanted to choose a more accurate description, it should have called it “Body Massage The Copy”. But that wouldn’t be as good for sales, and I imagine the confusion this creates with the Hitachi Magic Wand (the original, then) is far from accidental.
We’ll refrain from crying scandal over this. It’s neither the first nor the last sex toy to try to look like the Hitachi Magic Wand. That includes the Europe Magic Wand, which is a pretty successful clone. I’m not going to complain about another contender for the title of Hitachi-esque lookalike.
Appearance of the Body Massage L’Original
The Body Massage L’Original has broadly the same shape and the same dimensions as the Magic Wand.
But the colours and details are different. It’s black, with a gold rim, and its controls, which are also gold, look different too: instead of a switch, there are two round buttons.
Texture and materials
You can’t tell from the pictures, of course, but as soon as you pick it up, you notice a very clear difference from the Europe Magic Wand: it’s much lighter. Granted, it’s easier on the wrist, but it does feel a little “plasticky”, and you wonder whether it’s really sturdy.
The body of the sex toy is made of hard plastic. As for the material that makes up its head, the packaging says it’s “phthalate-free silicone gel”. It’s probably not 100% silicone (I have the same doubts about the Europe Magic Wand), but it’s odourless.
Edit (May 2017): we noticed that the coating on the head of the “Body Massage L’Original” had faded slightly over time, which doesn’t bode too well for its composition (basically, it loses material over time).
It’s a fairly thin layer covering the “skeleton” of the vibrator’s head. It’s still quite soft, but much less so than the head of the Europe Magic Wand.
Under the bonnet of the Body Massage L’Original
Intrigued by the very clear difference in weight between the Body Massage L’Original and the Europe Magic Wand, we decided to see what was hidden beneath their big heads. So we removed the soft cap covering the “skeleton” of each sex toy’s head.
On the Europe Magic Wand, this cap is much thicker and more “padded”, whereas on the Body Massage L’Original, it’s just a thin layer.
Underneath, hidden inside the Europe Magic Wand, is… a Cyberman! A big, sturdy metal thing.
And inside “the Original”, under the cap, there’s plastic at the top, and a skimpy layer of foam along the sides, behind which you can see a few electric wires.

The Hitachi Magic Wand seems to be somewhere between the two models; the inside of its head seems to be made of rigid plastic.
Power supply for the Body Massage L’Original Dorcel
The Body Massage L’Original plugs into the mains. The cable is long, even longer than the Europe Magic Wand’s (which measures 2.4 m): it’s three metres long. That’s more than enough to reach the nearest socket.
Controls and modes on the Body Massage L’Original
The Body Massage L’Original’s controls consist of two buttons, which you press to operate it: an On/Off switch and a mode-change button.
“The Original” has 10 modes, including two vibration speeds and eight more “fanciful” modes: pulse sequences, waves of changing intensity, and so on… The power of each mode is fixed.
As far as ultra-powerful vibrators go, I have a clear preference for sex toys with a potentiometer (like the Fairy, the Body Wand and the Europe Magic Wand, for example), because I like to adjust the vibration intensity as I please over time.
Here, when it comes to adjusting the power, you can only choose between two speeds: strong or very strong. The eight “fanciful” modes are nice to have, but personally, they’re not my priority. So that’s a downside for me (at least, in my opinion).
How effective is the Body Massage L’Original?
Now let’s move on to using it.
The fanciful modes are a little too jerky for me. There are too many interruptions, and I find it more frustrating than anything else (on the other hand, if you enjoy this kind of vibration sequence, you’ll be spoilt for choice). So I mainly focused on the two constant modes.
The Body Massage L’Original is powerful, very powerful in fact. But it’s still less powerful than the Europe Magic Wand.
We tried to work out which speeds on the Europe Magic Wand corresponded to the first and second speeds of “the Original”, by making them vibrate side by side.
In the end, we gave up. It’s very clear that at maximum power, the Europe Magic Wand vibrates much more strongly. But when you turn down the power on the Europe Magic Wand to get closer to similar intensities and try to find a match, you realise that the vibrations simply aren’t the same. With the Europe Magic Wand, the vibrations are broader, but softened by the thickness of the coating, whereas with the Body Massage L’Original, you feel almost directly what comes from the motor.
In any case, the Body Massage L’Original still lets me reach orgasm very quickly, in less than a minute.
I have to admit that with the Europe Magic Wand, I rarely turn the vibrations up to maximum power (and almost never for the first orgasm). The difference is noticeable above all when I use it several times in a row, because then I’m more inclined to play around with the intensity… and the Body Massage L’Original leaves me wanting a little more.
Overall, then, the “Body Massage L’Original” wand is effective, very effective in fact, although you can’t adjust its power gradually, which is its main drawback for me. In any case, it does what it was originally designed to do: make you come.
Conclusion on the Body Massage L’Original vibrator
The good points:
- The Body Massage L’Original vibrates very strongly: in short, it really is effective.
- It’s not very expensive: it costs less than 60 euros, around half the price of the Europe Magic Wand.
- Its cable is quite long, so it’s more practical.
- It looks like the Hitachi Magic Wand.
The bad points:
- No potentiometer to adjust the vibration power; you only have a choice of two “proper” speeds, while the other eight modes are more of a gimmick (at least in my opinion).
- The overall build quality feels a little “cheap”.
- It’s still less powerful than the Europe Magic Wand.
If I had to describe the “Body Massage L’Original” vibrator in just a few words, I’d simply say it’s a low-cost competitor to the Europe Magic Wand. It’s a slightly lower-quality product, and a little less good, especially if you like to vary the power of your vibrators while using them (on the other hand, the Hitachi Magic Wand only has two speeds, so it’s not a step backwards from the real original). But it’s much cheaper.
The balance between the difference in price and the difference in quality and enjoyment is perfectly reasonable. If you want an ultra-powerful vibrator that looks like a Magic Wand, and you don’t have 120 euros to spend on a sex toy, the Body Massage L’Original is a solid option, at half the price of the Europe Magic Wand.
On the other hand, if you don’t care about the resemblance and are simply looking for a vibrator that’ll make you come quickly and well, with a budget of less than 60 euros, I recommend taking a look at our Fairy review too: okay, the Fairy is bright pink, but you can vary the vibration power however you like.
