A recent survey revealed that a third of Americans never clean their sex toys. Yet cleaning your sex toys is a hygiene must, and neglecting this practice exposes that person’s genitals to all manner of germs.
The survey: how often do you clean your sex toys?
At the request of the online shop Adam and Eve, an independent body surveyed over 1,000 Americans aged 18 and over online about their sex toy hygiene habits.
Only 58% of those who responded (65% of women and 49% of men) said they clean their sex toys after every use. And nearly 33% of those surveyed (26% of women and 40% of men) never clean them at all. Yuck! The rest just clean their erotic toys occasionally.
How to clean your sex toys
Many brands and online shops offer their own “sex toy cleaners”.
But plain water and soap do the job just as well. The method is generally the same: you lather up and rinse. However, some sex toy cleaners are no-rinse. If you can, read the instructions or a review before buying.
Before soaking your sex toy under running water, if it’s a vibrator or another motorised accessory, make sure it’s properly waterproof. If it isn’t, careful, some parts should not get wet, and the process will be delicate.
In particular, ultra-powerful corded vibrators are never waterproof, and if they get wet, this can expose you to the risk of electrocution. Be careful! However, some have a removable “cap” on their head, which means you only need to clean that part.
After washing a vibrator, don’t put it away straight away. It’s important to let it air-dry properly, otherwise, waterproof or not, its contacts can corrode and thus destroy its battery.
