I’ve already told you about the Smart Wand Medium, this powerful clitoral vibrator from Lelo equipped with a pressure-sensitive mode. I really love this sextoy, which is why I wanted to test its large-size version: the Smart Wand Large.
How does this large version of the very powerful vibrator in the style of Lelo ?
Can it measure up to the Body Wand, Magic Wand, etc.? Is it really more powerful than the Medium version and less bulky?
So let’s have a look at the beast and compare it with its smaller version and the Body Wand, the two beasts of the same species already tested on Objets De Plaisir.
Packaging
The box
We received a fairly large parcel. While opening it, to our great surprise, we noticed that the sex toy’s box wasn’t “floating” inside the parcel. As for length and width, it was just the right size to contain the box.
Right, the Smart Wand Large box is enormous. I’m not complaining: a big box is bound to hold something nice; remember your childhood Christmases or birthdays, a big box under the tree was always a good sign, wasn’t it?
This is the characteristic packaging of LELO sex toys. The box is identical to the Medium one… But bigger.
It remains very understated, pleasing on the eye and made from a kind of cardboard sturdy enough to possibly keep the object in.
By the way, you’ll notice that, on the packaging as in the advert, these good people only use the Smart Wand to soothe their sore necks and ankles.
Well, in case you’ve chosen to believe in this rather chaste user manual, yes, you can massage your back, legs, or any muscle of your choice with a Smart Wand. It’s actually quite pleasant.
But let’s not lean into such pronounced hypocrisy and let’s stay focused on the erogenous zone that’s probably being targeted, the clit.
The case
As with all LELO sex toys, the Smart Wand Large comes with a case to store it in.
This one differs from the one you usually find with most of the brand’s sex toys: it’s not made of satin, but of a much thicker (synthetic) material.
This case is sturdier and protects the item better than a satin pouch. And better protection is welcome given the size of the device being protected.
The little extras
Like its little brother, the Smart Wand Large comes with a small, pretty fake brooch, and a one-year warranty. What we’ll mainly remember, then, is the warranty.
The sex toy
Dimensions
Visually, the Smart Wand Large is a perfect clone of the Smart Wand Medium… except that it’s three times bigger!
Its dimensions are fairly similar to those of the Body Wand or the Fairy.
As for dimensions, its head measures 8 centimetres in diameter, and is 10 centimetres long.
Its curved handle measures around 22 centimetres. That gives a total length of 30 centimetres for the whole device.
But let’s not forget that only its head (and its vibrations!) is what matters to us.
Appearance of the Smart Wand Large
The sample we received is black, but the Smart Wand Large, just like the Medium, is also available in white and purple.
Right, I’m not going to spend too much time describing its appearance since – apart from the fact that you (presumably) have the photos under your nose – it is, apart from its dimensions, identical to the Medium model.
That is to say: a curved handle, the end of which is covered with a silver plastic plate, and a rounded ‘head’.
Texture and materials
Once again, the features of the Smart Wand Large are similar to those of the Medium.
Its surface is made from body-safe, harmless materials: mainly 100% medical-grade silicone, except for the glossy part of the handle, which is ABS plastic.
Silicone-based lubricants should be avoided, as they can damage the toy. And, as with all silicone sex toys and many others, it is best to store it in its pouch when not in use, to avoid any possible contact with other plastics with which it might react chemically, and therefore deteriorate.
The handle of the Smart Wand Large is rigid, and its head is too. But its neck is flexible, which cushions excessive pressure. As for its surface, it is very smooth.
Charging
The charging time is the same as the Medium: two hours.
For the latter, I already found that quite quick. For the Large, which is not only bigger, but above all more powerful, this equally short time impressed me. Once recharged, the sex toy can run for two hours continuously – that’s plenty of uses.
The charger is a bulkier “transformer” than the Smart Wand Medium’s, but its size remains reasonable. Good point: You can stow it in the case with the sex toy (a rarity).
Waterproofing
The Smart Wand Large also claims to be waterproof. My slightly paranoid nature when it comes to this sort of thing will keep me from vouching for it, but a priori, if a brand like LELO sells a product as waterproof (with a warranty, no less), it must be.
If it were less effective or less pretty, I would have tried it without hesitation. But it appeals to me too much for me to take even the slightest risk, however infinitesimal.
Please, O reader, forgive my cowardice.
In any case, for cleaning, water and soap are enough. And even with my level of courage, its waterproofing seems more than sufficient, so you needn’t worry about splashes or a trickle of water.
It is also worth noting that the surface of the device (except for the ABS plastic part covering the lower part of its handle) is made from a single smooth block, which avoids the problem of dirt getting trapped in crevices – a recurring problem with the Body Wand.
Edit : Since the publication of this test, I have finally used the Smart Wand Large in the shower on numerous occasions. After all, if a vibrator is sold as waterproof, it had better actually be if it wants to deserve my consideration.
The result? After a long period (about a year) of regularly subjecting it to this treatment, with no special precautions (shower, soap, shampoo and rinsing in my company, and no particular drying for it, except a short stay on a towel), I noticed that slight traces of rust had formed in its charging port.
However, this had not affected either its performance or its charging.
Controls
The controls on the Smart Wand Large are the same as those on the Medium, with three aligned buttons: a ‘+’, a ‘-‘ and a central button featuring two arrows biting each other’s tails.
To switch it on, press the ‘+’ button. To switch it off, press and hold the ‘-‘ button.
Vibration modes
The same modes as on the Smart Wand Medium are available: eight ‘classic’ modes, and the ‘SenseTouch’ mode, sensitive to the pressure you apply to the ‘head’ of the device.
Since the controls are identical, I am copying and pasting this paragraph from the description of the Smart Wand Medium :
The ‘classic’ vibration and pulsation modes
Eight ‘classic’ modes, whose intensity can be adjusted using the ‘+’ and ‘-‘ buttons:
- A vibration mode,
- Three speeds of regular pulsations (fairly slow, fast, very fast),
- A mode in which the intensity gradually increases, then suddenly decreases,
- Two ‘wave’ modes,
- A mode alternating a large ‘wave’ with a series of small ‘waves’.
The “SenseTouch” mode
This mode is activated (or deactivated) by holding the central button for 3 to 5 seconds, until the device’s controls start blinking.
The sextoy then becomes pressure-sensitive. The harder you press, the more intense the vibrations become. If you reduce the pressure or move away, the vibration intensity drops.
The Sense Touch mode is just as convenient and pleasant to use on the Smart Wand Large as on its smaller sibling.
Control lock
The Smart Wand Large also has a feature that lets you lock its buttons after switching it off, so it doesn’t switch itself back on if they are accidentally pressed (for example, if you are carrying the sextoy in your luggage). Again, the same procedure as the Medium, so copy-paste:
To lock it, once it is switched off, simply hold down the “+” and “-” buttons simultaneously for about 5 seconds. The LED located beneath these buttons (whose light can be seen through the sextoy’s transparent casing) then lights up, and you can release the buttons as soon as it goes out.
Then, to unlock it before switching it on, you’ll need to do the same thing.
Vibration power
On the other hand, (and thank goodness) the vibrations are stronger than those of the Medium, which were already (at least in my opinion) powerful enough to reach orgasm very quickly.
Compared with the Body Wand (in its mains-powered version), the vibrations at maximum power may not be quite as intense, but they’re really close. And, in practice, it is quite rare to use the Body Wand at maximum power.
In short, the Smart Wand Large is the second most powerful sextoy I’ve had the chance to try (apart from the Rock Box, which is strange and bulky enough to be in a category of its own), and the difference from the first is quite small.
Noise level
The Smart Wand Large is admittedly noisier than the Smart Wand Medium.
The manufacturer states a maximum noise level of 60 dB, compared with 50 dB for the Medium.
That is a non-negligible difference, given that the decibel scale is logarithmic. 50 dB is equivalent to the sound of falling rain, while 60 dB is equivalent to the sound of an ordinary conversation.
So it is an audible sound, okay, but nothing like the hellish racket generated by the Body Wand. The neighbours are fine. Unless they regularly hear your conversations, in which case your walls are really in bad shape.
Using the Smart Wand Large
I keep the Smart Wand Large within arm’s reach next to my bed. There is no need to plug anything in, and an orgasm is achieved in less than a minute. It is a perfect sex toy for achieving a quick orgasm before falling asleep.
The Body Wand, unbeatable until now, has therefore been dethroned by this new cordless newcomer, which is more convenient. I feel a bit guilty, poor Body Wand!
The Smart Wand Large can also be used by two people, for example during penetration, to provide additional clitoral stimulation. But I must admit that for this use, even though it is perfectly suitable, I prefer the Medium, which is smaller and therefore more discreet.
Conclusion on the Smart Wand Large by Lelo
The LELO Smart Wand (in both versions) is – decidedly – a sex toy worth the detour.
So, I’m telling you that the Smart Wand Large is absolutely brilliant, that the Smart Wand Medium is very good, and I’ve told you before that the Body Wand was really very cool. We’re not getting anywhere, are we?
Let’s get to the serious stuff. Now, how do you choose?
For the Body Wand:
- It is cheaper.
- If you’re really looking for the strongest possible vibrations, it’s always the one that holds the record.
For the Smart Wand Large:
- It is – indisputably – far classier.
- While it is almost as powerful, it is noticeably quieter.
- You don’t need to be near a power socket to use it, and there’s no power cable getting in your way.
- It’s easier to clean: no need to be careful with water, and no gaps or ridges on its surface, so no dried lubricant stuck in places where you’d spend three hours getting it out.
- The “Sense Touch” mode, which adjusts the intensity of the vibrations to the pressure applied to the head of the device. This mode allows for a more “intuitive” masturbation. Moreover, if you set it down in the heat of the moment, it will stop vibrating on its own without requiring an expedition “searching for the vibrator to switch it off in order to avoid a constant vrr in the background”.
Well, that’s pretty obvious: I can only recommend it to those looking for a vibrator of this kind (a thing super powerful to climax in 2 minutes)
And if you’re torn between the Smart Wand Large and the Smart Wand Medium:
For the Smart Wand Medium:
- It has almost all the qualities of the Large, but it is smaller, and will therefore be easier to store, handle, and take everywhere… and its performance remains more than respectable.
To my mind, both the Large and the Medium are excellent vibrators. One is a bit more bulky but also more powerful, the other a bit more practical but also less powerful. As for which one would suit you best, I leave it to you to decide.
