Review: Sex and Mischief by Sportsheets Harness and Dildo

le

I really wanted to compare harnesses from various ranges, in order to get a broad overview of what is available, depending on the target price range. The first one, the Sex and Mischief by Sportsheets strap-on and dildo kit, is an entry-level strap-on, very inexpensive.

Its characteristics suggest a sex toy that, without being the most luxurious in the world, remains quite decent: body-safe materials, and a look that isn’t too kitsch.

Without wanting to get too hyped, a non-negligible factor for me personally is that this accessory is made in the United States, which suggests that the people involved in its manufacture had acceptable working conditions and wages (at least more so than in China or Bangladesh).

Harness packaging

As for packaging, it’s rather minimalist: a cardboard box, not ugly, but disposable.

Well, you don’t really need anything special to store a harness, but as for the sex toy that comes with it, to do it properly you’ll need to find a case for it.

The kit includes a small silicone dildo and a harness fitted with an “O-ring”, a ring on which the sex toy can be attached.

Appearance of the Sex and Mischief by Sportsheets strap-on and dildo kit

The first thing that jumps out at me when unpacking the parcel: the dildo is really tiny. Putting it on, I’ll have a tiny penis. But that’s fine, having a wee wee suits me. Apparently, size doesn’t matter…

the little dildo

Actually, the size of a sex toy is an important criterion to consider. The ideal dimensions vary depending on the people choosing it, and how they wish to use the device.

Having a mini zizz from time to time can be very useful. For example, for gently penetrating someone who wants to try anal penetration while having a few concerns about the diameter of what can go into their back door… It’s still fantastic, this ability to change penis at will. Long live harnesses!

Anyway, this time, I’ll have a wee wee. Its length remains on the low side of average, at 13 centimetres, of which 11 cm are insertable. As for its diameter, it’s rather tiny, at just 2 cm. Its base, which is placed in the harness and keeps the sex toy in place by remaining wedged behind a rubber ring, measures 5.5 cm in diameter.

mini dildo

The dildo is purple, with two shades that blend into a slightly iridescent gradient. This distribution of tones is very similar to what can be observed on the Tantus Splash. The brand name, Sportsheets, is engraved on its base.

Texture and material

The mini-dildo provided in the Sex and Mischief kit is made of silicone, very flexible.

Nothing is explicitly stated about the purity of the material, but it is completely odourless, and its texture and appearance are very similar to those of the Tantus sex toys we have on hand that are guaranteed 100% silicone, so I don’t think there’s any dodginess about it. A good point, therefore.

The Sex and Mischief harness

The Sex and Mischief harness has a strap that goes around the waist, and two that go behind the thighs. These straps are rigid, and adjust like those on a rucksack, thanks to plastic adjusters.

The straps pass through a thick fabric triangle that protects the pubis (this triangle is not attached to the harness attachments, it simply has four slits, through which they pass) and come together around a rubber ring, to which they are sewn.

The harness can be used with other sex toys than the one provided, provided they have a wide, flat base, and their diameter (base not included) does not exceed that of the ring, which is 3.5 cm.

The whole thing seems quite sturdy. The seams show no sign of weakness, the ring is similar to those found on more expensive harnesses, and the plastic widgets used to adjust the strap lengths don’t look especially fragile.

Putting on the harness

Putting on the Sex and Mischief harness is very simple.

You slide the mini-dildo into the ring, so that its base rests on the fabric.

Then you loosen the straps and slip one leg in on each side. Finally, you pull the whole thing up, like a pair of briefs, then you tighten the straps around the waist and thighs.

Comfort and handling

To make the harness as easy to handle as possible, the straps need to be tightened well, which, alas, makes it a little less comfortable and less attractive.

Once the straps are properly tightened, you have near-perfect control over the movements transmitted to the sex toy.

The Sex and Mischief harness is admittedly not as comfortable and imperceptible to wear as the – very nice, but much more expensive – Spareparts Joque.

Sex and Mischief strap-on

Its straps pull a tad, but they don’t pinch. It’s much more comfortable than plastic straps, for example (which I had the disagreeable opportunity to try with the Briana, a harness by the brand Vivid, yet a fairly well-known sub-brand of Doc Johnson).

Look of the Sportsheets harness and dildo

The Sex and Mischief harness doesn’t go all out on originality, but its look is understated and quite decent.

Sex and Mischief strap-on

I’ll still point out two rather awkward flaws:

  • The fabric triangle that covers the pubis tends to flip up on the sides under the tension of the straps, giving it a bit of a “butterfly wings” look (come on over and let me nectar with my wee trunk), or even “Babar the Elephant’s ears” (provided you attach a bigger sex toy than the one included).
  • The straps, rigid and not very wide, bulge a bit on the hips and thighs. This is not dramatic to my taste, but it’s worth noting that it doesn’t flatter the body’s shapes as much as a harness equipped with more supple and/or wider straps (like the expensive Spareparts Joque, for example).

The harness, seen from the back

From the back, it’s understated. The bottom and the back door are well on show. The vulva is accessible, but a penis that risked reaching it would be exposed, depending on the position, to small, unpleasant rubbing – though not dramatic either – because of the straps. On the other hand, they don’t get in the way at all of using a sex toy for vaginal penetration while wearing the harness.

the harness and my bottom

And, apart from that, I’ve already insisted (heavily) on the miniature size of the sex toy provided.

In practice, by way of comparison, here’s what it looks like, in my hand and next to the LELO Smart Wand Medium.

Admire my little wee wee.

Conclusion on the Sex and Mischief by Sportsheets strap-on and dildo kit

The good points:

  • Its price is very low (under €40), for a quite decent strap-on kit.
  • The sex toy provided is made of silicone, a body-safe material (and often expensive!)
  • Its look is very understated, its workmanship quite honest.
  • I insist: its price. For under €40, by searching, you might be able to find something visually classier, with better packaging and all… And even that’s not guaranteed. But in terms of product and material quality, you won’t find better in this price range. At any rate, not to my knowledge.

The bad points:

  • The straps, thin and rigid, bulge a bit visually, and are not top-notch in comfort.
  • The front triangle lifts a bit on the edges. This is not functionally annoying, but it’s not very pretty.
  • The sex toy provided is very, very small. This characteristic can also be an advantage, particularly for the anal penetration of a partner who isn’t used to it, but visually, this “penis” with dimensions worthy of a big finger is a bit ridiculous, which is why I put this on the flaws side.

In short: should you buy this strap-on?

The Sex and Mischief by Sportsheets strap-on and dildo kit provides everything needed to get started with anal penetration using a harness, without dodgy, cancer-causing plastic materials, with an honest quality, decent enough to be used and reused as often as you like. The whole thing fitting within a budget of around €40.

On the other hand, the very reduced size of the dildo provided restricts the possible uses. It is genuinely useful only for anal penetration. Well, that’s already not bad, and it’s probably the primary purpose of such a purchase for many… But that’s all.

For another use, note however that it’s possible to use a more suitable sex toy on this harness, the only requirement being that it fits within the diameter of the harness’s “O-ring”.
