What is the current state of censorship on adult platforms? Performer Sophie Ladder has put together an exhaustive overview of the practices that are allowed or banned, across platforms that allow their users to share porn content. She shares her summary in a shared Google Docs spreadsheet, which she updates regularly.
Her statistics cover 21 platforms that allow the sharing of sexually explicit content. The analysis covers 7 X-clip sales sites, 6 cam platforms (including Chaturbate and Cam4), 2 porn tube sites (XVideos and Pornhub), 3 fan sites, 2 sexting apps with porn actresses and cam girls, and one adult social network.
On some points, the findings are surprising, and can sometimes seem absurd.
Menstrual blood, the banned fluid
Strangely, on X-content sharing platforms, menstrual blood is a little less tolerated than vomit! Among the practices that face less censorship than periods, we’ll also note asphyxiation and the presence of weapons… Ah, periods, the great ignored danger!
Only three sites allow menstrual blood unconditionally, compared to six for vomit. The first two are the porn tube sites, XVideos and Pornhub, which, overall, are the least strict. The third is SextPanther, a sexting app, which only offers exchanges in the form of private conversations.
On the porn clip sales site side, IndieBill is the only one that can tolerate periods… But only if they’re not accompanied by penetration.
Among adult webcam platforms, only Cam4 can put up with seeing a few drops of menstrual blood… Provided it is neither manipulated nor highlighted.
And among fan sites, only JustForFans, which, on the other hand, has no issue with vomit, accepts that actresses have their periods, but not during sex.
Besides, blood, full stop, is not welcome. Apart from the three platforms that are also fine with menstrual blood, a few sites tolerate fake blood, or “blood not originating from bodily injuries”, but that’s it. Basically, it’s fine if you accidentally nosebleed while masturbating, or if you do a show in a vampire outfit with ketchup. But any hard BDSM activity that leads to injuries is proscribed.
Urophilia and its censorship on adult platforms
For many X platforms, peeing on yourself or your partner is far less taboo than having your period.
However, urophilia seems to be subject to a classification scale of practices that is, at the very least, strange. The majority of platforms are perfectly fine with seeing a little urine on camera. However, if you fancy peeing on someone, six sites that allow peeing will ban you. And among the six participatory porn sites that accept group uro practices, three of them refuse to allow the liquid to be drunk.
What is the logic behind this approach? Why make such a distinction? “A golden shower, it’s cool, but still, ew, it’s bad taste!” What a criterion…
Poop, for its part, is not allowed to show up anywhere.
Censorship and adult platforms: simulated incest
Incest is illegal in many countries. It’s therefore logical that X platforms don’t tolerate it.
However, it’s worth noting that in France, this is not the case: incest between consenting adults is legal; it’s only their marriage that is forbidden. In short, as long as the people involved are adults and happy about it, what they do together under the covers is their business alone.
But here, we’re not talking about real incest, but about roleplay performances featuring simulated incest. Basically, we’re not talking about the favourite activity of the characters in Game of Thrones, but about that of its actors. It’s about playing a role.
Only three sites tolerate simulated incest. The platforms do, however, show more tolerance when it comes to simulating an in-law relationship, and even then… Out of 21 sites, 11 categorically refuse any incest roleplay, even if it’s with your fake stepmother or your fake sister-in-law. And yet “step mom” is the tenth most searched term on Pornhub in 2019.
