The new book by Ève de Candaulie is titled Osez le polyamour. This time, it’s not a novel, but a guide to polyamorous relationships. If candaulism and polyamory don’t necessarily go hand in hand, these notions are compatible and can be combined.
In fact, these two lifestyles are based on mutual trust and compersion, the opposite of jealousy, which involves feeling joy at seeing your partner take pleasure or be happy with others. But polyamory has nothing to do with adultery, swinging or polygamy.
A guide to polyamorous relationships
Ève doesn’t try at all costs to convince us to adopt her lifestyle. Polyamory is an ideal for some, but can turn into a nightmare for others. In her book, she presents what the various aspects of polyamorous relationships are. You learn what a ‘metamour’, a ‘pivot’ or a ‘polycule’ is. You’ll also find an evaluation of the ‘benefits’ and ‘costs’ of polyamory, interviews with advocates, a bit of history, and a deep reflection on the vast range of possible combinations in matters of relationships. The aim is to better understand the concept, and to help those who are wondering about the subject make an informed decision about whether polyamory is truly right for them. For my part, I don’t think polyamorous relationships would suit me. But I devoured the book in a few hours, eager to learn more. It’s very well explained. The imperative of being in a monogamous relationship is questioned there, with simplicity and logic.
