The panty-scented mask: fetishism and the pandemic

le

With the pandemic and the need to wear a mask, new concepts of original masks are springing up all over the place. Customised masks printed on demand, accessories for ear comfort, transparent masks to show your smile, and so on… But the crown of innovation in this field goes to certain worn underwear sellers, who have invented the panty-scented mask.

The principle? A young woman wears the mask in her knickers for long enough to infuse it with her intimate scent. She then retrieves the mask, wraps it in an airtight pouch, and posts it to the lucky buyer. The latter can then wear the mask thus scented, in order to indulge in a little fetish pleasure, in front of everyone, without raising any suspicions.

On sites like Sell Your Knickers, we’re therefore seeing a new type of “specialty” appear: the panty-scented mask, available in “sex side” or “bum side”.

For fetishists who enjoy underwear sniffing, the panty-scented mask is the chance to turn complying with anti-Covid-19 hygiene precautions into a moment of arousal. A game that is, in the end, perfectly innocent, which won’t bother anyone around you… Unlike refusing to wear a mask, or the annoying habit of letting your nose stick out!

Is the Covid-19 pandemic a boost for the libido?

In the early days of the Covid-19 epidemic, we started seeing porn taking the coronavirus as its theme, and Pornhub recorded a spike in searches for this keyword. This story of the panty-scented mask prompts us to ask the question again: the coronavirus, a libido booster? Not really, it’s actually rather the opposite.

Sex and lockdown

If lockdown seems to have rather brought couples closer together overall, that’s not specifically the case on the sexual front. And for good reason, many found themselves locked in with their children at home, and there were few opportunities for intimate moments. Singles, for their part, haven’t been doing anything wild, and most have resigned themselves to abstinence. Condom sales have in fact plummeted between March and May 2020.

The coronavirus and sex toy sales

Admittedly, rumour has it that the coronavirus has boosted sex toy sales. However, the statistics on this don’t come from surveys conducted with great scientific rigour, but from the brands themselves. Womanizer, for example, claims to have seen its sales increase by 40% in France compared to its 2020 projections.

It’s very likely that this is simply a marketing technique to limit the damage. Indeed, for quite a lot of people, the Covid-19 epidemic has led to financial difficulties, which rarely tends to encourage shopping.

Covid-19 and swinging

The swinging scene, for its part, has taken a real blow. Like ordinary nightclubs, swing clubs have been shut for ages because of Covid-19, and many of them risk never reopening. If many swingers prefer to stay cautious, the irrepressibles persist nonetheless, in spite of the risks. Private parties are still taking place. And, as we can see on Wyylde, a few clubs are trying to bend the rules and continue to organise parties (perhaps because they officially have the status of a restaurant or a sauna?).

But when it comes to infection, there’s no miracle. This summer, the naturist village of Cap d’Agde, the capital of swinging, recorded record scores in terms of coronavirus, with nearly one in three people tested leaving with a positive result.

Can you catch the coronavirus by wearing a panty-scented mask?

Admittedly, everyone knows that girls never fart. But still, if in order to thoroughly scent the accessory, the lady actually wears it for 24 or 48 hours straight, let’s admit that a little discreet fart can happen.

Coronavirus and flatulence

Scientists have very seriously looked into the spread of coronavirus via flatulence. Indeed, Covid-19 transmission is thought to occur via “aerosols”… and farts fall into this category. Not everyone agrees on the matter.

Luke Tennent, an Australian microbiologist, estimated that to answer the question, nothing beat practical experimentation. He therefore asked one of his colleagues (in good health) to fart successively into two Petri dishes. Once fully clothed, and once with his bare bum. The atmosphere in the lab must have been somewhat strange at that point.

In short, the following day, the dish that had received the fart with trousers on was still spotless, while in the other, bacteria normally found in the intestines and on the skin had developed. He therefore concluded that there was no need to worry about a potential Covid-19 infection via farts, because even if they let the smells through, clothes act as a filter for viruses and bacteria.

The panty-scented mask and farts

But in drawing his conclusions, Luke hadn’t envisaged the existence of the panty-scented mask.

However, other scientists estimate that the risk of coronavirus infection via flatulence, although theoretically possible, is, in the worst case, minuscule. It has in any case never been scientifically proven (fortunately for the poor guinea pigs…). However, in the event of a suspected Covid-19 infection, it’s best to be careful on all counts, when in doubt, and to wash your hands well after going to the toilet. But otherwise, this story about farts is more a buzz to deny the usefulness of masks than anything else.

In short: if you happen to decide to wear a panty-scented mask, yes, there will probably be a few bacteria in there (and I suppose you already suspected that, and that maximising hygiene isn’t the point of the exercise). But it’s very very far from being the most likely thing to give you the coronavirus.

The panty-scented mask and vaginal fluids

On the other hand, it’s possible that wetting it might slightly reduce the mask’s effectiveness. If the lifespan of a paper mask on the mouth is estimated at 3 to 4 hours, science hasn’t yet looked into the impact of vaginal fluids on the device’s filtering capabilities… We really wonder why!

Variant: the sock mask

No doubt more fragrant, but much less discreet, the stinky sock mask constitutes a bold alternative to the panty-scented mask. Its making required more practical work. Indeed, it’s made up of two socks sewn together, to which the creator has attached two elastic bands. Someone had to think of it!

The item costs the modest sum of €300. But reading the comments, you can see there has indeed been a buyer, and he seems perfectly delighted with the service. As long as everyone’s happy, that’s what matters.
