I’ve already written about, and more than once, Idée du Désir, this French cabinetmaker who sculpts wooden sextoys. When he told me he had designed a new model, I was therefore very enthusiastic. His new creation, the Désir Papillon, is a vaginal plug containing a steel ball.
Idée du Désir developed this sextoy with the advice of a sexologist, Dr Daniel Habold. A doctor qualified in medical sexology, he practices at the Chambéry hospital.
We have already tested several Idée du Désir creations on this blog: two dildos for G-spot stimulation, the Orchidée and the Orchidée Twins, as well as a small anal plug. All of them have proven both aesthetic and effective.
Here, then, is the review of the Désir Papillon.
Packaging of the Désir Papillon
The Désir Papillon is supplied in a white satin pouch, which makes a practical and space-saving storage case. A single-dose sachet of lubricant is included.
For those who want more luxurious packaging, on the occasion of the Christmas holidays, Idée du Désir also sells a wooden box containing the Initial, the Désir Papillon, and a newly invented wooden cockring.
The sextoy: a wooden vaginal plug
The Désir Papillon’s appearance
The Désir Papillon’s appearance is surprising. In a good way.
Its shape is reminiscent of an anal plug, only bigger. It is two-coloured, and its base is very thin. And when you shake it, you can feel and hear that it is hollow and that it contains a heavy ball.
The object is very small, made of wood, hand-sculpted, but it is a concentrated dose of detail and precision. There is not a single mark to be seen on its surface. It would almost seem carved from a single block. How is that possible? Either our favourite cabinetmaker is truly very talented, or he grows two-coloured trees stuffed with balls in his garden. Personally, I lean towards the first hypothesis.
The Idée du Désir logo is printed, or, more precisely, embossed, in relief, on the back of the insertable part. This relief is not felt during use.
In short: visually, the sextoy is magnificent, flawless.
Texture and materials
The Désir Papillon is made of wood and therefore, of course, rigid. It is made from two different woods: walnut for the sides, and cherry for the central part.

The internal ball is made of steel. Of course, you can’t see it, but you can feel its weight.
Using the Désir Papillon
The Désir Papillon is meant to be worn inserted in the vagina, in the manner of a pair of geisha balls: for fairly long periods, and, if possible, while walking.
The curve of the insertable part should be oriented forwards, so that the sextoy presses against the G-spot. Meanwhile, on the external side, the long end of the base exerts pressure against the clitoris, while its shorter end stimulates the perineum around the anus.
The first time I tried it, I was (pleasantly) surprised. The object being rigid, I expected to feel some discomfort at first, and I feared it might not suit me at all.
This was absolutely not the case. The shape and dimensions of the Désir Papillon proved perfectly suited to my body shape.
This is nothing to do with chance. During the design of the Désir Papillon, Idée du Désir asked numerous women (including myself) to reveal some fairly… intimate… measurements. Not to satisfy a mysterious millimetre fetish, but with the aim of arriving at ideal dimensions, likely to suit everyone. As a result of this statistical study, there are two “standard” sizes, S and M (S for people under 1.70m, M for those measuring over 1.70m).
The sensation provided by the object varies according to position and movement. It is quite comparable to what one feels when wearing geisha balls; but simply better.
I could try to describe the sensations more precisely, with lots of words, but in the end, I find that it sums up quite well: similar, but (and I insist) better than geisha balls.
The Désir Papillon constantly presses against the G-spot, but when seated, it is a static pressure, whereas while walking, you can feel the internal part move with the movements of the ball.
Likewise, the nature of the pressure against the clitoris is not the same whether you are walking or standing still, seated or standing.

As with any “passive” sextoy, of course you should not expect an immediate orgasm; it is not a heavy vibrating machine, but the excitement builds up gradually, without any let-up. The combination of constant pressure against the G-spot and friction against the clitoris and the anal area is quite irresistible.
At first, the plug holds perfectly in place, almost motionless. Gradually, the sextoy has its effect, and the area becomes noticeably wetter… and therefore, slippery. Having always worn it under my knickers, I have never had to fear the device making off, but it may perhaps become a problem if you wear it without underwear.
After a while, the sexual tension reaches its peak, and does not stop.

As with geisha balls, you can also perform pelvic muscle contractions in order to help the sextoy move. This, in addition to being beneficial for the crotch, increases the intensity of the sensations.
In terms of discretion, nothing to report. Visually, under a pair of jeans and knickers, you notice not a single sign. And as for noise, even while bouncing in a quiet place, you do not really notice the sound caused by the ball moving.
Conclusion on the Désir Papillon
- The concept of the Désir Papillon is revolutionary.
- It is a magnificent sextoy, a genuine work of art, handcrafted from a noble material.
- It maintains a sexual tension that increases gradually and without any let-up over time: it is an out-of-the-ordinary experience.
Bad points:
- In our view, not really any bad points with the Désir Papillon.
By shaping a material used for millennia, Idée du Désir manages to invent a revolutionary, complex sextoy, successful in its smallest details.
The Désir Papillon lives up to its name (for the “desire” part, not the butterfly). It is a sextoy designed not to obtain an immediate orgasm, but to build up desire, slowly but surely. An accessory far more exciting than traditional geisha balls.
