The Tyo Lubricant, by the brand MotsuToys, is a Japanese water-based lubricant, with a texture denser than average. And its composition seems rather healthy: it contains neither parabens nor glycerine.
So I was keen to try it. Here’s my review of the Tyo Lubricant.
The bottle
If the shape of the Tyo Lubricant bottle doesn’t strike a chord, then your mind isn’t quite as well-placed as ours. Well, let’s admit it, this bottle is clearly phallic.
However, in case you feel a bit too enthusiastic at the sight of this container, let’s not get too carried away. It’s a tube of lubricant, not a sex toy: it has in no way been designed to be inserted. No one’s going to stop you from doing it though, but if you try, be careful with its cap, which could unscrew mid-flight and get stuck if it’s not properly tightened. For my part, not lacking in sex toys, I didn’t feel like trying the experience.
Its capacity is 360 millilitres: that’s good for a while! This bottle costs about 18 euros, it’s good value for money.
The label reads “Made in Japan and distributed by MotsuToys”.. Even though this might seem obvious, it’s quite rare to see a product described as ‘Japanese’ that is actually made in Japan. It’s a pleasant surprise. MotsuToys is a Dutch shop, specialising in the import of Japanese brands. Their site offers many unusual products, rarely found elsewhere. These are primarily aimed at men, but not exclusively. For example, this lubricant is intended for a wide range of uses, andmay suit you regardless of your sex or gender

Note: the kanji 興 on the label means ‘pleasure’.
Composition of Tyo Lubricant
- The ingredient list is quite short. Water, Sodium polyacrylate, Sodiumdehydroacetate, Disodium Edtaodium Edta
- Some sodium polyacrylate: an absorbent substance, found, among other things, in baby diapers. In powder form, it can irritate, and its absorbent properties make it dangerous in case of ingestion or inhalation. It is part of the composition of certain viscous lubricants, such as Rends Peace’s or the Nori Cobeco lubricant. In a liquid product, this component, diluted in water, serves to give a gel-like texture. In this form, it poses no apparent danger.
- Sodium dehydroacetate : a preservative, harmless to the body. This ingredient is approved for use in organic cosmetics.
- DisodiumEDTA : a chelating agent, in other words, a substance that enables the removal of metal ions and atoms. In cosmetics, its purpose is to neutralise the calcium and limescale naturally present in water. It also helps to increase its viscosity. This compound is not organic, as it is not biodegradable, but it poses no danger to the user’s health.
The taste and smell of Tyo Lubricant
Tyo Lubricant is odourless, and its taste is very subtle. And that’s a good thing: for my part, when I use a lubricant, apart from in terms of glide, I prefer it to keep a low profile.
The texture of Tyo Lubricant
Instead of pouring like a liquid, the lubricant forms large, very dense drops, which evoke a sort of slime.
Between the fingers, the substance tends to form filaments. It’s not sticky at all; the feel is pleasant, but it’s extremely viscous and slippery. You suddenly feel like everything is going to slip out of your hands.
Using Tyo Lubricant
Tyo Lubricant is designed for a wide range of uses. It’s suitable for both vaginal and anal penetration. And it’s also compatible with sex toys. To give you a more concrete idea, we poured a little onto a sex toy, the Cryptodite Ylva & Dite dildo, a review of which we’ll be publishing soon.
The lubricant forms a huge droplet, which slides very, very slowly down the sex toy. The lubrication is good, it slides well (less than a silicone-based lubricant, mind you), and it doesn’t dry out too quickly. Overall, I find the Tyo Lubricant more pleasant to use than a standard water-based lubricant.
One small caveat, though: the matter of cleaning. Even though it washes off with water, the Tyo Lubricant turns out to be a bit harder to clean than an ordinary water-based lubricant.
Conclusion on the Tyo Lubricant
The good points:
- The thick and viscous texture of the Tyo Lubricant is pleasant.
- The lubrication is good, and it doesn’t dry out too quickly.
- It is odourless and flavourless.
- Its composition is healthy for the body.
The downsides:
- A little more difficult to clean than an ordinary water-based lubricant.
The Tyo Lubricant is a rather likeable lubricant to use, odourless and flavourless, with a dense and viscous texture, excellent lubrication, and a healthy composition for the body. We really liked this product.
