We bought a 3D printer, which we’d been wanting for a while. To try it out, we wanted to make a 3D-printed penis. Admittedly, the usefulness of such an object is quite debatable. But watching it come to life was terribly satisfying, and it now sits gloriously next to my keyboard.
This 3D-printed penis is not a sex toy, but a simple decorative object. After all, 3D-printed objects are not body-safe, largely due to their porosity. Moreover, filament-based 3D prints are too brittle to be used risk-free as sex toys, and resins contain chemical compounds that could prove harmful for this type of use.
Yet you can find plenty of 3D-printed sex toys on Etsy, sometimes varnished in an attempt to make them non-porous. Even if their look is sometimes tempting, bringing these objects into contact with mucous membranes or inserting them into your body is a bad idea. After all, they can harbour bacteria, and they risk breaking during use. Moreover, if they are varnished, the composition of that varnish often remains a mystery.
Since we’re going to print a 3D-printed decorative dong anyway, might as well not settle for an ordinary penis. Why not a beautiful dragon phallus? The 3D model we used is called “Dragon Dildo Dick”. It’s a creation by Guillera, which you can download for free on Cults3D.
3D-printed penis, first attempt: a 2 cm tall miniature
For our first attempt at a 3D-printed penis, not knowing quite what to expect, we went for a tiny 2 cm dong.
Looking at it up close, it has flaws, admittedly, but let’s not forget it’s minuscule. It’s a doll-sized dong, the sort that would suit a character about fifteen centimetres tall.
Here it is, already thinking it’s Leonardo DiCaprio on the deck of the Titanic!
3D-printed penis, second attempt: a big dong
The miniature version of the dong being rather cute, we felt like printing a bigger one, about twenty centimetres long.
And the result really has class. Here it is, next to its miniature companion.
And here are some photos of its making:
So, now, the big question: what is a 3D-printed penis good for? Well, practically speaking, not much. But it’s a funny decorative object, and very satisfying to look at.
If a 3D-printed penis can in no way become a proper sex toy, you can very well use 3D printing to design a mould for making a silicone sex toy.
We fully intend to try the experiment one of these days! But for that, rather than printing a dong (a rather handsome one, in this case) designed by someone else, we’d prefer to wait until we manage to model the sex toy of our dreams. Or, if we don’t manage that, at least to model a personalised thing whose look inspires us. More to come, then…
