Yes, you read that right: I tested an aubergine dildo!
The sex toys in the Garten Eden range by SelfDelve intrigued me. They are rather original little dildos, in silicone, resembling fruits and vegetables so closely you’d think they were the real thing. Among other things, bananas, carrots, aubergines, cucumbers and cobs of sweetcorn.
And that’s not all. A superfluous gadget, but it fuelled my compulsive urge to have one: they change colour depending on temperature.
I tested the SelfDelve Aubergine dildo.
SelfDelve dildo packaging
Like all the other models in its range, the SelfDelve Aubergine dildo comes in a metal tin, resembling a tea biscuit tin. The whole thing is padded with tissue paper.
It’s not the classiest packaging in the world, but it’s understated, sturdy and practical for storing the object.
The sex toy
Appearance: a life-sized aubergine dildo
My first reaction on opening the tin was something like: “Yeah, alright… It’s properly big!”.

The fruit is 21 centimetres long and reaches 6 centimetres in diameter at its widest point. That is a credible size for a medium aubergine, neither particularly organic nor particularly GMO.

The resemblance to an aubergine is well done. Sure, you wouldn’t go as far as cutting the dildo and accidentally making a ratatouille. But the details are quite well imitated. At least visually, anyway. And for people who are genuinely (genuinely, genuinely) inattentive, the brand’s embossed logo is located near the stem.

Let’s get down to the very important things. So this colour change with temperature? I warmed the widest end of the sex toy in my hands for the photo, leaving the other end at room temperature…
And indeed, the difference between the warmed part and the part that stayed cool is clearly visible! Perfectly useless, but cool.
Texture and materials: silicone
SelfDelve sex toys are made from medical-grade silicone: a healthy material for the body, non-porous, and very easy to clean.
It’s worth noting that there are a few slight little “flaws” on the surface of the SelfDelve Aubergine. But on the other hand, there are some on the surface of a real aubergine too. The sex toy also has a slight tendency to attract dust, probably due to its smooth surface.
The sex toy is rather “squishy”, and flexible. More flexible than the vegetable model.
Someone made our two aubergines do some stretching (the SelfDelve is on the left).
Using the aubergine dildo
Needless to say, due to its size, the SelfDelve Aubergine dildo cannot be used on the fly, because it simply doesn’t fit.

Just note that the real aubergine in the photo was a bit giant.
I only set about testing the vegetable after using another smaller sex toy: the Tantus Comet, the Fun Factory Tiger or the Tantus Splash, depending on the occasion. I had a good amount of lubricant (but no vinaigrette). And I applied a powerful vibrator to my clitoris (Smart Wand Large or Fairy) so as to be as aroused as possible.

After a few unsuccessful attempts, victory! The device eventually managed to penetrate at the moment of orgasm. Once the tip goes in, the rest of the sex toy’s length, being thinner, follows without difficulty. To get it out, just contract the pelvic muscles, and the sex toy is immediately shown the door.

Incidentally, as it doesn’t have a wide flat base, the SelfDelve Aubergine is not suitable for anal penetration: it could get stuck. And showing up at A&E with a fake aubergine stuck in your arse, that’s probably not that fun…
Conclusion on the SelfDelve Aubergine dildo
The good points:
- It’s an aubergine.
- … And it’s therefore a rather original sex toy. And it’s pretty (the aubergine) and well made. Many other sex toys attempting to imitate a vegetable you come across on the market these days are more of a joke than anything else. This one is admittedly a fake aubergine, but also a real sex toy.
- The material it’s made from is healthy. Far more so than a real vegetable (unless you’re planning to eat it, of course. As for taste and cooking time, it’s still a bit meh).
- It changes colour! (Sure, it’s useless… But it’s cool, isn’t it?)
The bad points:
- It’s an aubergine.
- … And it’s therefore very big. That’s not a bad point in itself, but before buying it, you have to ask yourself whether you can really use it.
- Its price is a bit high: around 80 euros.
The SelfDelve Aubergine dildo is a very niche sex toy, not for everyone. You need to like big diameters, and, obviously, to be friends with vegetables, and, by the way, to have a vagina.
But, in the end, it’s an object of excellent quality, which I found fun, original and pleasant to use. If you’re not afraid of its somewhat considerable size, or of vegetables, I recommend it without hesitation.
Note finale du test
Les plus
- It's an aubergine! (so a rather original sex toy, at the very least)
- ... And a well-imitated aubergine, what's more!
- Medical silicone
- Changes colour with temperature!
Les moins
- Yeah, but it's an aubergine... Not fit for just any context...
- And so, it's really massive, as a sex toy
- A bit pricey
And a wistful thought for the sad fate of the aubergine that posed for the comparison. We ate it shortly after the photo shoot… And it never had the chance to serve as a sex toy for anyone.
